Scholarship

The McCandless Democratic Committee presented a $1,000.00 scholarship to Brennan McGovern at a special celebratory meeting, Tuesday June 7th, 2011 at the McCandless Town Hall.

"Brennan McGovern is an impressive young man who, in addition to achieving good grades, is very invested in his community, and was even a junior member of the Franklin Park Township Council,” said Peggy Amatangelo, chair of the selection committee. Brennan will attend Elon University in North Carolina to major in journalism with a minor in political science. After the presentation, there was a small reception in Brennan’s honor, attended by the Committee and members of Brennan’s family.

This is the sixth annual McCandless Democratic Committee Scholarship. The committee awards a scholarship each year to a North Allegheny senior who exemplifies the values of hard work and civic duty. Applicants are judged on their grades and test scores, and an essay on one issue from the platform of the Democratic Party. The Committee emphasizes the students’ commitment to and participation in service and civic life
